Elmwood Lofts
Closed February 2025 | 66 Units | 76 Beds
Elmwood Lofts opened in 1927 as South Carolina's first junior high school, which, along with its striking Collegiate Gothic architecture, earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The property was converted into apartments in 2000 through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, preserving 27 of its 66 units as affordable housing for seniors.

Its location within the desirable Elmwood Park neighborhood puts it within a mile of downtown Columbia and exciting local developments such as The BullStreet District and revitalized Finlay Park. Spacious studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments boast luxury plank flooring, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and modern fixtures. Tenants also enjoy access to a fenced lawn accented by towering magnolias and an elegantly furnished courtyard.

Elmwood Lofts was acquired in February 2025 and is Sweetbay's first LIHTC asset.
